The Phase 1 survey is a basic habitat descriptive and advisory requirement adequate for most development sites but for some sites with complex ecological issues a much more detailed Phase 2 survey may be required. An initial site survey will identify the need for more detailed work of this nature.
Using standard National Vegetation Classification (NVC) methodology, NVC surveys of this depth may be an appropriate way of developing a site management plan for land which is not going to be developed. It is a descriptive and detailed survey which maps and describes vegetation structures and lists species and relates them to the soil and their environment.
A full report includes detailed maps and vegetation classifications and will seek to fulfil the specific needs of the survey. Only a few ecologists are experienced in this field.
